Privacy Policy

This page describes what Clipkin does and does not do with your data. It's written to be read, not skimmed past.

The short version

Clipkin stores your clipboard history and snippets only on your Mac. It has no account system, no analytics, and no tracking. It makes no network requests at all: it has no networking code, and its App Sandbox doesn't include network access. We don't run any servers for Clipkin to talk to.

What Clipkin stores, and where

• Clipboard history and snippets are stored in a local database in Clipkin's application container, at ~/Library/Containers/com.clipz-app.clipz/Data/Library/Application Support/clipz/ on your Mac (the folder still uses the app's original name, clipz). For images, this includes any text and QR/barcode contents Clipkin recognized in them (see below). None of it leaves your device as part of Clipkin's normal operation.
• Settings are stored in Clipkin's preferences inside the same container.
• Export files. If you use Export (Settings → Backup), Clipkin writes your history and snippets to a JSON file at a location you choose, using the standard macOS save panel. That file is yours; Clipkin does not keep a copy or upload it anywhere.

What Clipkin does not do

• No account or sign-in of any kind.
• No network requests, no cloud services, no sync.
• No analytics, no crash reporting, no telemetry, no A/B testing infrastructure.
• No advertising, no ad identifiers, no cross-app or cross-site tracking.
• No data is sold or shared with anyone, because Clipkin doesn't collect any data to sell or share in the first place.
• Clipkin does not operate any backend servers. There is nothing for us to receive, log, or retain.

Secret detection and auto-delete

Clipkin scans text you copy on-device to recognize things like API keys, tokens, private keys, and one-time codes, so it can mask them in the history list and delete them automatically after a short, user-configurable interval (10 minutes by default). This detection runs entirely on your Mac using pattern matching — nothing is sent anywhere to perform it. Clipkin also skips capturing anything your password manager marks as concealed, and excludes common password manager apps from capture by default.

Actions, text recognition and translation (all on this Mac)

• Quick Actions (formatting, case conversion, encoding and similar) run as local code.
• Text and QR code recognition. When you copy an image, Clipkin uses Apple's Vision framework on your Mac to read any text and QR codes or barcodes in it, so you can search for them and copy them out. The image and its text are not sent anywhere.
• Remove Background uses Apple's Vision framework on your Mac to cut the subject out of an image.
• Translate to… uses Apple's Translation framework, which translates on your Mac. The first time you translate into a language, macOS may ask to download that language; that download is handled by macOS, the same way it is for Apple's Translate app, and doesn't include your text.
• Open link on a QR code opens the link in your default web browser, only when you choose it. What happens after that is between you and the website, under the browser's and the site's own policies.
• Detected secrets are never offered for translation.

Purchase (Mac App Store version)

The Mac App Store version is a paid app with no in-app purchases. Apple handles the sale; we don't receive your name, Apple Account or payment details, and the app doesn't check or report anything about your purchase.

Data retention and deletion

Your clipboard history is retained up to the limit you set in Settings (100 items by default, up to 5,000) and is trimmed automatically as new items arrive. Items flagged as secrets are deleted automatically after the interval you configure. You can delete individual items, clear your entire history, or delete snippets and snippet groups at any time from within the app. Uninstalling Clipkin removes its local application data in the usual macOS way; nothing remains on any server, because Clipkin doesn't have one.

Children's privacy

Clipkin is a general-purpose productivity utility not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, of any age, because it does not collect data.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the effective date at the top of this page will be updated and the new version posted at this same URL. Material changes (for example, if Clipkin ever added a feature that collects data by default) will also be called out in the app's release notes.
